On Friday, June 17, the DuPage Credit Union held its ninth edition Drive, drop off and donate at its location at 1515 Bond Street. The electronic recycling and document shredding event benefits the credit union’s “We’ve Got Your Back” fundraiser.

Help students

“All funds, 100% of funds raised today will be used to purchase school supplies for students in need here in DuPage County,” said Tamara McQueen-Salentine, DuPage Credit Union Marketing Coordinator. “They get backpacks, pencils, calculators, things like that to really start the school year off right. Because if you don’t start the school year with the right supplies, you’re going to fall behind.

The public was asked to bring their old electronics, such as computers, cameras and DVD players, as well as any paper, checks or personal documents for safe shredding. Items were loaded into safes and then removed by volunteers for contactless drop-off. The cost of each service was $10.

Nine years strong

Fundraising has now been going on for nine years.

“So nine years ago our executive vice president Amy Brandt met with the DuPage Regional Education Office who said there was a need here in DuPage County,” McQueen said. – Salentina. “A lot of times people think of DuPage County, not a lot of needy families, but there really are a lot of needy families here in DuPage County. So she worked with the DuPage Regional Education Office and they participate in the Joliet Catholic Charities School Campaign every year, again this year at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton. in August.”

Help is essential

McQueen-Salentine noted that with inflation soaring, providing aid to students in need is more critical than ever.

“Every year we want to raise $10,000 for the ‘We’ve Got Your Back’ fundraiser. So that’s our goal for the year. It’s usually one of our biggest fundraisers for the event,” McQueen-Salentine said.

Gerald Subaru of Naperville sponsored the Drive, Drop and Donate event.

The DuPage Credit Union also raises funds through online donationsuntil July 31.
