How to Burn DVD on Windows 11 PC

Remember that you can only burn a CD or DVD if your laptop or desktop computer contains the DVD drive. Please also note that not all CDs and DVDs are writable, there are 6 different types of DVDs and each has its own properties.

  • DVD Media- DVD, this versatile digital disc is more like a CD where you can only read the data. You cannot copy any data to DVD media.
  • DVD+R- This DVD is recordable, which means you can copy any of your data to this DVD, but then it will be permanently stored here. You cannot delete this data or overwrite it.
  • DVD+RW- This disc is erasable. You can erase one data from a DVD+RW and copy another. You can erase it and then save it again several times.

Burn a DVD using File Explorer

You can easily burn a DVD using File Explorer on your Windows PC.

  • Insert a black DVD into your DVD drive.
  • Open File Explorer and locate the files you want to copy to this disc or, for example, burn to disc.
  • If you are copying multiple files, select them all using the Shift key on your keyboard.
  • Right-click and click Show more options.
  • Go to Send To and select DVD Player.
  • This will open a new pop-up window asking for the title of the disc and how you want your PC to burn this disc using a USB flash drive or DVD drive.
  • Choose the option that you find the best and click Next.
  • This will open File Explorer again with a notification, “Files ready to be written to disk”.
  • Drag and drop the files you want to burn.
  • Go to the Drive Tools option in the main ribbon and click Finish Burning.
  • You will again get a pop-up window asking for recording speed and disc title. Fill in the options and click Next.

Burn DVD on Windows PC using Windows Media Player

Windows Media Player is another way to burn your DVDs. Windows Media Player can burn audio CDs, data CDs, and DVDs. To open Windows Media Player on your Windows 11 PC, open the search box and type WMP, you will see the application. Click Open.

  • Once Windows Media Player is open, click the Burn tab placed in the upper right corner.
  • Remember to insert a black CD into your DVD drive first.
  • Click on the small arrow next to it and select options from the menu – Audio CD, Data CD or DVD.
  • Here you can also select if you want the disk Automatically eject after burning.
  • Drag and drop the files you want to burn to the right panel and click the Start Burning button.

If you selected the option Eject disc after burningyour disc will automatically eject when burning is complete, i.e. once all files have been copied to the disc.
